HOW THIS INDEX WORKS

Evidence, images, corrections and ads—
kept in view.

This index values traceability over the number of answers. Scope, confidence, image rights and update dates stay on the same page.

01

Evidence grades A–D

A = official or primary; B = corroborated; C = reasoned estimate; D = unverified. D is never used for buying decisions.

02

Four meaning types

Wearer, maker, contemporary reading and later reading remain separate. Compelling myths receive the clearest labels.

03

Image policy

Display only locally stored PD, CC0, CC BY, CC BY-SA or purchased material. Prefer authentic colour; never use AI colourisation as evidence. One image has one primary use by default.

04

Corrections

Changes to colour, date, place, motif or product status retain a reason and date. Earlier claims are not silently erased.

05

Advertising & affiliates

Commercial links are disclosed and ranking is not based on commission alone. Living products remain around 5% and are never inflated into historical association.

06

Participation & privacy

External submissions, voting and server-side boards launch only after moderation, deletion, consent and retention are designed. On-device bookmarks, recent pages and text-size settings are never sent to the server. Public measurement and owner diagnostics remain separate data classes.

PRIVACY-MINIMISED SESSION MEASUREMENT

You can switch off pseudonymous session measurement.

Browsing events are joined within a visit using a random session ID. The site does not store raw search terms, IP addresses, user-agent strings or email addresses as analytics data. This setting stays in this browser; while disabled, no new events are sent. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track are also respected.

CORRECTION LOG

Corrections are part of the record.

Corrections before and after launch remain visible so the same mistake is not repeated. Superseded material that would violate privacy or rights is not republished.

  1. Replaced external-only culture links with full internal articles

Museum links now support the text as end sources rather than replacing it.

  2. Added an image-placement ledger

Each image receives one primary use; every exception reuse requires a reason.

  3. Corrected Highgrove colour from green to pink

The early colour record was corrected after rechecking the photograph and caption.

  4. Corrected star-and-moon to star print

Separated a later product name from the motif visible in the evidence photograph.

  5. Removed uncleared photography

Source links were retained while images without confirmed reuse rights were replaced by rights-safe diagrams.
